Dr. Paul Pinckney served as a faculty member in the History Department at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville from 1969 until his retirement in 2006. He specialized in British history and was known for leading study abroad programs to London. Dr. Pinckney received his BA from Davidson College in 1954 and PhD from Vanderbilt University in 1969, having previously taught at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
His dedication to teaching earned him the university's prestigious L. R. Hessler Award for Excellence in Teaching and Service. Former students established the Paul J. Pinckney Scholarship Endowment in his honor, remembering him as a devoted teacher and mentor who enriched their educational experiences through challenging and inspiring instruction.
