Dr. Paul Pantano is an Associate Professor of Chemistry and Biochemistry at The University of Texas at Dallas, affiliated with the School of Natural Sciences and Mathematics. His research focuses on developing analytical techniques to study complex chemical systems, particularly nanomaterials' behavior in biological and environmental contexts. He has held this position since 2002 and previously served as Assistant Professor (1996–2002).
Education:
- Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry, University of California at Riverside (1993)
- M.S. in Analytical Chemistry, California State Polytechnic University at Pomona (1988)
- B.S. in Chemistry, University of California at Los Angeles (1986)
Research Interests: Dr. Pantano's work spans bionanoscience, nanomaterials characterization, and nanosafety. His current projects investigate the effects of shear forces on nanoparticle drug formulations and include past expertise in nanomaterial purification, in vivo nanomaterial detection, and safety protocols. His lab (PantanoLABO) emphasizes label-free analytical methods for nanomaterials in living systems.

Advising & Grants: Mentored 28 graduate, 53 undergraduate, and 9 high school students. Secured over $5 million in external funding from NSF, NIH, DOD, and others. Collaborates on NIH/NIEHS and Semiconductor Research Corporation projects.
Labs & Affiliations: Leads PantanoLABO and is affiliated with the Alan G. MacDiarmid NanoTech Institute (2003–2022) and Bionanosciences Group (2004–2022). Active in nanotechnology safety and applications research.
