Paul Monaghan is a Lecturer in the Classics Faculty at the University of Winnipeg. He holds a BA (Honours) from the Australian National University, an MA and PhD from the University of Melbourne. His research focuses on Greek and Roman theatre performance, the reception of classical antiquity in modern media, and contemporary dramaturgical practices. Monaghan is affiliated with the Canadian Association for Theatre Research, the Classical Association of Canada, and the Australasian Drama, Theatre, and Performance Studies Association.
His work explores intersections between ancient Greek tragedy and modern performance, including studies on spatial dynamics in ancient theatres, postdramatic adaptations, and the history of Greek tragedy in Australia. Recent publications analyze digital transformations in Greek tragedy and spatial theories in classical performance.
Monaghan has co-edited volumes like Close Relations: Spaces of Greek and Roman Theatre (2016), contributing chapters on postdramatic theatre and spatial analysis. His research bridges classical literature with modern performance studies, emphasizing practice-led methodologies.
