Paul McManus is an Affiliated Faculty member of the Boston University Institute for Global Sustainability (IGS) and a Senior Lecturer in the Strategy & Innovation Department at the Questrom School of Business. He specializes in strategy development, innovation management, and sustainability solutions for systemic challenges. His work integrates design, systems, and platform thinking to address environmental, social, and economic issues through product/service innovation and policy development in energy, mobility, and sustainable cities.
Education: MBA (Boston University, 1986); BSc in Mechanical Engineering Technology and ASc in Aeronautical and Aerospace Engineering Technology (Wentworth Institute of Technology, 1977).
Research interests focus on regenerative economic clusters, catalytic project financing in the Global South, and improvisational learning methodologies. He leads Action Learning Programs, designing real-world projects that prepare students for ethical leadership in sustainable development. McManus is an award-winning educator and Fellow of the Ravi K. Mehrotra Institute, contributing to pedagogical innovations in online collaborative learning and GenAI-enabled systems.
Recent publications include syllabi and project guidelines for strategy implementation, corporate sustainability, and design thinking courses. His work bridges academia and practice through partnerships with impact investors, NGOs, and public institutions to advance systemic innovation.
Advising and grants involve translational research with external partners, focusing on ex-ante/ex-post challenges in blended financing for bioregional development. He leads the Questrom Action Learning Programs, fostering student engagement in real-world projects.
