Paul McGinn

Paul McGinn is a Professor in the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at the University of Notre Dame's College of Engineering. He has been affiliated with Notre Dame since completing his education there.

Education:

• Ph.D. in Metallurgical Engineering and Materials Science (1984)
• M.S. in Metallurgical Engineering and Materials Science (1983)
• B.S. in Metallurgical Engineering and Materials Science (1980)

His research focuses on the processing and properties of advanced materials, particularly through combinatorial approaches involving automated synthesis and characterization. Key applications include fuel cell electrocatalysts, proton conductors, and battery electrode materials. His group has developed instrumentation for high-throughput materials screening.

Recent publications emphasize catalytic coatings for particulate matter removal, soot oxidation mechanisms, and solid-state electrolyte processing. Research spans environmental engineering, energy conversion, and materials synthesis.
