Dr. Paul Marshall is a Group Leader in the Division of Genome Sciences and Cancer at the John Curtin School of Medical Research (JCSMR), ANU. His research focuses on genomic plasticity, investigating how dynamic DNA structures (e.g., G-quadruplex, Z-DNA) and non-classical DNA modifications regulate long-term memory formation and fear-related learning. He leads the Marshall Group, which employs advanced sequencing techniques (Illumina, Oxford Nanopore) to study memory stability in mice.
Education: PhD in Neuroscience. Key affiliations include the ANU Researcher Portal and ORCID (0000-0002-7106-2298). Current projects include developing the HaloTag tool for RNA isolation in neurons and exploring DNA structural variants in neuroplasticity.
Advising: Supervises PhD and Honours students such as Raymond Chen, Joshua Davies, and Anna Wilford. Research infrastructure includes state-of-the-art genomic and neurobiological facilities at JCSMR.
Labs/Teams: The Marshall Group - Genomic Plasticity Lab investigates mechanisms linking DNA dynamics to memory persistence, with applications in neurodegenerative and psychiatric disorders.
