Paul Manning is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Plant, Food, and Environmental Sciences at Dalhousie University's Faculty of Agriculture. His research focuses on biodiversity's role in agricultural ecosystems, particularly insects. He holds a DPhil in Zoology from the University of Oxford (2017) and a BSc in Agriculture from NSAC/Dalhousie (2013), complemented by a Faculty Certificate in Teaching & Learning (2020).
Research interests include agroecology, biodiversity conservation, entomology, and community science. His lab (Cox Institute Room 220) explores topics like dung beetle ecology and sustainable food systems. Teaching includes courses on entomology, conservation biology, and food sustainability.
He is an Associate Editor for Ecological Entomology and Journal of the Acadian Entomological Society, and a member of multiple professional societies including the Entomological Society of Canada.
Key research themes involve understanding how biodiversity supports ecosystem functions, mitigating pest impacts, and promoting community science initiatives. His work bridges ecological theory with practical agricultural applications.
