Paul Lovejoy is a Distinguished Research Professor and Canada Research Chair in African Diaspora History at York University's Department of History. He holds an honorary Doctorate from the University of Stirling and is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada. His research focuses on African history, the African diaspora, slavery, and Islamic studies in Africa. Lovejoy has authored over 40 books and 150 articles/chapters, including seminal works on West African jihad movements and trans-Atlantic slavery. He founded the Harriet Tubman Institute for Research on Africa and its Diasporas and leads major projects like the 'Testimonies of Enslavement' initiative.
