Paul King

Paul King is a Researcher and Group Manager in Physical Biochemistry at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) within the Biosciences Center. His career spans over two decades at NREL, focusing on photobiological and artificial photosynthetic systems for solar-to-biofuel conversion.

  • PhD in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from University of Georgia-Athens
  • MS and BS in Bacteriology from University of Wisconsin-Madison

King's research employs molecular, biochemical, and biophysical techniques to investigate:

• Catalytic mechanisms of hydrogenases
• Bioenergetics of hydrogen metabolism in algae and anaerobes
• Photochemical processes in enzyme-based hybrid complexes

His work aims to develop fundamental insights into energy transduction networks for advancing renewable energy technologies. Recent publications highlight studies on:

• H-cluster intermediates in [FeFe]-hydrogenases
• Electron transport in CdS-nanorod/hydrogenase biohybrids
• Ferredoxin interactions with [NiFe]-hydrogenases
• Oxygen-sensitive binding analysis using MST
