Paul J. Reider is a Professor at Princeton University, joining its faculty in 2008. His research focuses on developing new drugs for malaria, tuberculosis, and other neglected diseases, leveraging expertise in catalysis and synthesis. Prior to academia, he spent 28 years in the pharmaceutical industry, including roles as Vice President of Process Chemistry at Merck and Worldwide Head of Chemistry Research & Discovery at Amgen, where he led a 600-member global team.
He holds an A.B. in Psychology from New York University (Washington Square College) and a Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from the University of Vermont, followed by postdoctoral NIH-funded research at Colorado State University. He has authored over 170 scientific papers and holds numerous patents, contributing to 14 FDA-approved drugs including Singulair, Crixivan, and Sustiva.
He serves on editorial and advisory boards for journals like the Journal of the American Chemical Society and organizations such as the Medicines for Malaria Venture. He has also served on visiting committees for Harvard, Caltech, and UC Santa Barbara.
