Paul J. Mather

Paul J. Mather, MD, is a Clinical Professor of Medicine in the Division of Cardiology at the Perelman School of Medicine, University of Pennsylvania. He serves as the Physician Leader for Heart Failure Disease Management within the University of Pennsylvania Health System and as Director of Faculty Development in the Division of Cardiology. His global health engagements include collaborations with institutions in Botswana, Vietnam, and Italy, focusing on enhancing medical education and establishing advanced cardiology programs.

His research interests center on heart failure, cardiogenic shock, infective endocarditis, and medical education. He has led initiatives to expand residency and fellowship training programs and has contributed significantly to global health capacity building, particularly in underserved regions. His clinical expertise is complemented by leadership in faculty development and disease management strategies.

The recent publications reflect a strong focus on cardiovascular outcomes, disparities in care, pandemic impacts on heart failure, and comorbid conditions such as diabetes.
