معرفی
Professor Paul Hughes is a Professor of Palaeoecology at the University of Southampton. He leads research in palaeoclimatology, Holocene environmental dynamics, and ecosystem recovery. His work focuses on reconstructing past climates using geological and ecological records, with projects spanning North America, the Falkland Islands, and the Polar Urals.
Research interests include land-ocean-atmosphere interactions, volcanic impacts on climate, and post-wildfire peatland restoration. He is a member of key research groups such as Landscape Dynamics and Ecology, and the Southampton Marine and Maritime Institute. Current PhD students include Imogen Speck (Geography), Nina Herer (INSPIRE), and Yuntong Li (INSPIRE).
Publications highlight interdisciplinary approaches combining sediment analysis, DNA, and historical records to explore environmental change. His projects, such as RECOUP-Moor, address ecosystem restoration post-wildfire. He holds a BSc and PhD, with extensive international collaborations in palaeoenvironmental research.
