Paul Hessburg is a Courtesy Professor in the Department of Forest Engineering, Resources & Management at Oregon State University’s College of Forestry. His research focuses on wildfire dynamics, climate change impacts, and landscape resilience. He holds a PhD in Botany and Plant Pathology from Oregon State University (1984) and a BS in Ecosystem Analysis and Silviculture from the University of Minnesota (1978).
Key research interests include fire ecology, forest pathology, and climate adaptation strategies for forest ecosystems. His work emphasizes understanding how climate change and wildfire interact to shape landscape dynamics and resilience.
- Awards: 2023 Distinguished Landscape Ecologist (IALE-NA), 2017 and 2018 Distinguished Scientist awards.
- Leadership: President of the International Association for Fire Ecology (2022–2024).
Collaborators include John Bailey and Skye Greenler. His research has been published in journals like Fire Ecology and Frontiers in Ecology and the Environment.
