Paul Haspel is an Associate Professor in the Department of English at George Mason University. His research focuses on Chesapeake Bay regional literature, film studies, and American regionalism, with notable work on Edgar Allan Poe and Civil War studies. He holds a Ph.D. (1996), M.F.A. (1991), and B.A. (1983) from the University of Maryland and College of William & Mary, respectively.
His current research projects include analyzing Poe's influence on Conan Doyle and re-examining the Andersonville Civil War prison camp through literature and media. Haspel has taught courses in composition, advanced writing, and multidisciplinary studies. He received the Nyberg Grant (2004) for collaborative work on writing pedagogy.
