Paul Gow is a Senior Research Fellow at the University of Southampton, affiliated with the Zepler Institute and the Optical Engineering & Quantum Photonics group. He holds a PhD from the University of Southampton (2016), focusing on Terahertz emitters for spectroscopy. His research emphasizes photonic device fabrication, quantum technology, and ultra-precision machining using UV/IR lasers. He contributes to the NQIT quantum hub project, developing fiber-optic networks for quantum entanglement. Key projects include Direct UV Writing systems for integrated optics and diamond grinding for quantum components.
Education: PhD in Quantum Light and Matter (2016), University of Southampton.
Research interests include photonic devices, optical waveguides, laser materials processing, and quantum sensors. His work bridges photonics and quantum technologies, with a focus on miniaturizing optical systems for atom traps and quantum networks.
Publications highlight advancements in silicon machining, lithium niobate waveguides, and holographic grating couplers. His awards include the 2014 Three Minute Thesis Winner and 2017 Research Group Highly Commended award.
He supervises PhD students Matthew D'Souza and Joel Keen. His external engagement includes an invited talk on 'Planarized Optical Fibre - a review' (2019).
