Professor Paul Gard is based at the University of Brighton, focusing on neuropharmacology and developmental biology. His research explores angiotensin’s role in cognition, Alzheimer’s disease, and fetal alcohol spectrum disorders (FASD). Key projects include investigating antihypertensive drugs’ cognitive effects and prenatal alcohol exposure’s impact on skeletal and neurochemical systems.
Research interests span neurodegenerative diseases, toxicology, and translational medicine. Recent work highlights angiotensin’s potential in delaying Alzheimer’s progression and mitigating FASD through maternal or infant treatments. Collaborations include the Peptide Research Excellence Network (PeReNE) and studies in Lebanon/Saudi Arabia on counterfeit medicines and healthcare worker stress.
Publications emphasize interdisciplinary approaches, linking basic science to clinical applications. His work bridges pharmacology, neuroscience, and public health, addressing both molecular mechanisms and societal impacts of medical conditions.
