He specializes in multiple myeloma, experimental therapeutics, and stem cell transplantation. His research focuses on novel drug development, including proteasome inhibitors (e.g., bortezomib), immunomodulatory agents (e.g., lenalidomide), and monoclonal antibodies (e.g., daratumumab). He has led pivotal trials such as VISTA, DETERMINATION, and ICARIA, which established new treatment standards. Richardson has authored over 490 peer-reviewed articles and received numerous awards, including the Warren Alpert Prize and Robert A. Kyle Lifetime Achievement Award. His teaching roles include course director for international hematology/oncology programs and patient education initiatives.
Education:

- Residencies: Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Newcastle General/Freeman Hospitals, Royal Marsden Hospital
- Fellowships: Baystate Medical Center (Tufts University) in Hematology & Oncology
Research Interests:
Dr. Richardson’s work emphasizes translational research in multiple myeloma, including drug toxicity management (e.g., neuropathy), novel drug combinations, and genomic/proteomic profiling to tailor therapies. His recent efforts include advancing third-generation proteasome inhibitors (e.g., marizomib) and oral CelMoD agents (e.g., mezigdomide). He also investigates defibrotide for veno-occlusive disease prevention in stem cell transplants.
Publications & Trials:
His articles focus on clinical trial outcomes, drug mechanisms, and treatment optimization. Recent studies highlight triplet/quadruplet regimens and immunotherapy advancements, reflecting trends toward precision medicine and combination strategies.
Awards:
- Robert A. Kyle Lifetime Achievement Award (IMF, 2017)
- Giants of Cancer Care Award (2021)
- James Griffin Team Science Award (2023)
- Top 1% Highly Cited Researcher (2014, 2022)
Advising & Grants:
Leadership roles span the Multiple Myeloma Research Consortium (MMRC), Alliance Myeloma Committee, and ASCO editorial boards. He has secured grants supporting trials like DETERMINATION and GRIFFIN. His lab focuses on drug development pipelines and clinical trial design.
Labs/Teams:
He co-leads the Dana-Farber Multiple Myeloma Clinical Research Group, which pioneered 17 of 19 approved myeloma therapies. The team emphasizes collaborative translational science and global trial networks.
