Dr. Paul Fuller is a Teaching Fellow in Buddhist Studies at the School of Divinity, University of Edinburgh, since 2021. He holds a PhD and MA in Buddhist Studies from the University of Bristol (2003, 1998) and a BA (First Class Hons) in Religious Studies from the University of Edinburgh (1995). His research focuses on early Buddhist philosophy, modern Buddhism, and engaged Buddhism, with particular attention to Myanmar’s religious and political dynamics. He has lectured globally in Buddhist, Asian, and Religious Studies.
Qualifications include advanced degrees in Buddhist Studies and Religious Studies, emphasizing textual analysis and contemporary applications. As Programme Director for Religious Studies, he oversees curricula and pedagogical strategies.
Research interests span early Buddhist thought, engaged Buddhism’s role in social activism, and the intersection of Buddhism with modernity. His work critically examines religious exclusivism, ethical frameworks, and cultural dynamics in Buddhist contexts, often engaging with Pali Canon texts and contemporary case studies like Myanmar’s social issues.
Publications highlight themes of Buddhist ethics, religious pluralism, and cultural narratives. His writings bridge academic and practical dimensions of Buddhism, addressing global audiences through accessible yet rigorous scholarship.
Teaching and supervision involve guiding students in Religious and Buddhist Studies, fostering critical engagement with doctrinal and applied aspects of the field. His academic contributions reflect a commitment to interdisciplinary approaches and real-world relevance.
