Chris Clark is an Adjunct Associate Professor at the University of Sydney, with prior affiliations at the University of Edinburgh, Australian National University, and Deakin University. His research focuses on Pali and Sanskrit languages and literature, Buddhism in South and Southeast Asia (particularly Myanmar), and textual criticism. He has secured grants from the Pali Text Society and the Robert H. N. Ho Family Foundation. Clark is a member of the Sydney Southeast Asia Centre.
Education: PhD in Buddhist Studies (University of Sydney), DipLangStud(Hons) in Sanskrit and Pali (University of Sydney), MEnvSc and BSc(Hons) (Monash University).
Research Interests: Clark’s work centers on Theravada Buddhist texts like the Apadana. He explores Pali and Sanskrit literary traditions, textual preservation, and the cultural history of Buddhism in Myanmar. Current projects include editing the Apadana and studying the Kuthodaw Pagoda marble-stelae recension of the Pali canon.
Publications: His articles and book chapters analyze Buddhist narratives, textual variants, and the intersection of literature with religious practice. Recent work includes studies on bodhisattva stories and Burmese textual traditions.
