Paul Freedman is an Associate Professor in the Department of Politics at the University of Virginia and serves as Associate Department Chair. He specializes in public opinion, media-politics intersections, voting behavior, and the politics of food. Freedman holds a Ph.D. from the University of Michigan.

His research spans political communication, campaign advertising, and democratic processes. Recent work appears in top journals like the American Journal of Political Science and Journal of Politics. He has authored/co-authored influential books on campaign strategies and democratic governance.
He currently directs the Morven Summer Institute and serves on the Jefferson Institute board. His advisory roles include leadership at the UVA Center for Politics and prior service with the Pew Project on Campaign Conduct. Since 2000, he has been an ABC News election analyst.
