Paul Fairfield is a Professor of Philosophy at Queen's University within the Faculty of Arts and Science. He holds a PhD from McMaster University and specializes in continental philosophy, phenomenology, and pragmatism. His work engages with thinkers like Gadamer, Ricoeur, Nietzsche, and Dewey. Current projects include History and Hermeneutics (Cambridge, 2025) and The Void: An Existential-Political Analysis.
Research focuses on philosophical hermeneutics, historical imagination, and the interplay between theory and practice. Notable publications include Historical Imagination: Hermeneutics and Cultural Narrative (2022) and Death: A Philosophical Inquiry (2014). Teaching emphasizes continental philosophy, with courses on 19th-20th century thinkers and seminars on hermeneutics and Dewey.
