Paul Engevold is an Adjunct Professor at the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design (MIAD), where he has taught since 2006, and serves as director of the NWQ Biological Sciences Greenhouse at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM). A graduate of UWM's undergraduate and graduate programs, he instructs diverse science courses including Botany, Critters, Peripatetic Biology, and Field Experiences: Lakes & Forests of Northern Wisconsin.
His research investigates phytoplankton-zooplankton-nutrient interactions during invasive predatory zooplankton events in western Lake Michigan, bridging aquatic ecology and limnology. This work emphasizes ecosystem dynamics in Great Lakes environments and informs his field-based teaching approach. Engevold's educational philosophy centers on personal passion and one-on-one student interaction as critical components of effective science education.
He actively extends his expertise through community workshops for organizations like the Friends of Cedarburg Bog, SEWI Master Gardeners, and the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at UWM. As greenhouse director, he oversees plant biodiversity conservation and research initiatives that support both academic programs and public outreach efforts in environmental science.
