Dr. Paul Edison is an Associate Professor of History at the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP), affiliated with the College of Liberal Arts and the Department of History. He holds a Ph.D. from Columbia University (1999). His research focuses on the sciences in France and Mexico, the history of scientific discourses about Latin America, and transatlantic perspectives on patrimony, race, and nation. Current research explores French medicine in Mexico. He teaches courses on world history, European history, and the history of science and empire.
His notable publication includes an article on French expeditionary science in Mexico during the 1860s (published in French Historical Studies) and a forthcoming book, Latinizing America: The French Scientific Study of Mexico, 1820-1920 (Duke University Press). He received the Extending the Reach Faculty Research Award from the National Endowment for the Humanities.
