Martin Balmaceda

His research centers on Latino theater as a vehicle for articulating cultural identities, communal values, and social issues within the Latino experience. He investigates how theater platforms diverse narratives on immigration, assimilation, and cultural preservation, while pioneering the integration of performance art with drama therapy to facilitate personal and collective development through artistic expression.

Balmaceda maintains an active directing career across the USA, Mexico, and Chile, with recent works including Quixote Nuevo (2025), a border-set reimagining of Don Quixote by Octavio Solis, and Acheron: The River of Tragedy (2025). His extensive portfolio spans 22 years (2003–2025), featuring productions like Medea Desplazada (2018), Antigone (2018), and Daughter of the Makahiya (2014), often collaborating with institutions such as Pan-Asian Repertory Theatre and Universidad de las Americas Puebla.
