Paul Croft's research and artistic practice focus on the intersection of drawing, print media, and historical print techniques. His work explores visual language through alphabets, amulets, and found objects, often reflecting on archaeological and etymological origins. He has curated major exhibitions such as Stone-Plate-Grease-Water (2007) and Collaboration in Practice: British Lithography 1800–2022 (2022), emphasizing collaboration as a core method in printmaking.
His recent publications and exhibitions reveal a strong engagement with Chinese contemporary printmaking, particularly through collaborations with Changsha Normal University and Central South University. The 2014 JIE (Border) exhibition in Changsha exemplifies cross-cultural dialogue between Western lithography and Eastern woodcut traditions.
Croft's scholarly output shows a consistent trajectory in print media, with themes centered on collaboration, materiality, typography, and international exchange. The evolution from technical manuals to large-scale research exhibitions indicates a deepening integration of practice-based research and academic inquiry.
