Paul Connelly

Dr. Paul Connelly is an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of Glasgow and a Consultant Physician in Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Mineral Metabolism at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, Glasgow. He completed his MBChB at the University of Dundee (2012) and a PhD at the University of Glasgow (funded by the British Heart Foundation), focusing on sex, gender, and cardiovascular disease in transgender health.

His research interests include sex steroids, pituitary disease, and cardiovascular endocrinology, with a particular emphasis on transgender health and gender-affirming hormone therapy's cardiovascular effects. He has contributed to over 26 peer-reviewed articles, exploring topics like hypertension, vascular health, and post-COVID-19 cardiovascular sequelae.

Dr. Connelly's work often bridges clinical practice and academic research, addressing healthcare disparities and improving outcomes for transgender individuals. He has co-authored reviews and systematic analyses on topics such as gender-affirming hormone therapy's cardiovascular risks and rural-urban disparities in hypertension prevalence.
