Paul Broker is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine and Pediatrics at UT Southwestern Medical Center. He joined the faculty in 2019 and specializes in primary care, health promotion, healthcare transitions from pediatric to adult care, HIV prevention and treatment, and healthcare provider wellness.
Dr. Broker earned a bachelor's degree in nursing and his medical degree from the University of Minnesota. He completed residency training in internal medicine and pediatrics at the University of Arizona College of Medicine – Phoenix, where he served as Chief Resident.
His research interests include primary care and health promotion across all ages, healthcare transition from pediatric to adult care, adolescent and adult sexual health, HIV prevention (including PrEP and PEP), general HIV treatment, and healthcare provider wellness and mental health. He is committed to integrating medical science with the therapeutic context of patients' lives, emphasizing effective communication and collaborative goal-setting with patients.
Dr. Broker has received the following award:
- J. Kipp Charlton MD Resident Humanitarian Award for Community Service (2019)
In addition to clinical work, he is a primary care champion for the PrEP Initiative with Parkland HIV Medicine at the Parkland Center for Internal Medicine. He actively participates in professional organizations such as the Texas Medical Association and the American Academy of Pediatrics. While he has not listed specific grants or students, his work focuses on improving healthcare delivery and patient outcomes through preventive care and therapeutic communication.
