Paul Bramadat is a Professor and Director of the Centre for Studies in Religion and Society (CSRS) at the University of Victoria. He holds dual appointments in the Department of History and the Religion, Culture and Society Program. His work focuses on religion, spirituality, and secularity in North America and Western Europe, with recent attention to global forces and Indigenous spiritualities. He earned his PhD from McMaster University (1998), MA from McGill (1993), and BA from the University of Winnipeg (1990). Before joining UVic in 2008, he taught at the University of Winnipeg.
His research explores modern postural yoga in North America, vaccine hesitancy, migration governance, and Indigenous spiritual engagement with Canadian public life. Major publications include Yogalands (2025), Religion at the Edge (2022), and Public Health in the Age of Anxiety (2017). He collaborates internationally, co-editing works with scholars from Europe and Canada.
Bramadat’s articles appear in journals like Studies in Religion and Journal of the American Academy of Religion. He serves as Associate Editor at the latter and has contributed to policy discussions on religion’s role in health, migration, and reconciliation. Current projects include edited volumes on Indigenous spiritualities and yoga’s cultural dynamics.
