Paul Beck is a Professor of History at Wisconsin Lutheran College (WLC) since 1987. He holds a Ph.D. from Marquette University, an M.S. from James Madison University, and a B.S. from Mankato State University. His research focuses on military history, the American Civil War, the Wild West, Native American studies, and Latin America. He has authored works such as Soldiers, Settlers and Sioux: Fort Ridgely and the Settlement of the Minnesota River Valley and Columns of Vengeance: Soldiers, Sioux, and the Punitive Expeditions, 1863-1864.
Before joining WLC, Beck worked in museums and taught at other colleges. He advises the Student History Organization and Fencing Club, and is a member of the Society of Military Historians.
In his personal time, he enjoys fencing, volleyball, miniature wargaming, and spending time with family.
