Paul Barr is a Professor and Vice-Provost at Utah State University in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering within the College of Engineering. He has been actively involved in teaching, research, and administration at the university.
Dr. Barr earned his educational degrees from prestigious institutions:
- PhD in Civil Engineering from the University of Washington (2000)
- MS in Civil Engineering from the University of Washington (1998)
- BS in Civil and Environmental Engineering from Utah State University (1995)
His research focuses primarily on structural engineering with emphasis on bridge engineering, prestressed concrete structures, and structural health monitoring. Dr. Barr has conducted extensive research on bridge performance, failure analysis, accelerated bridge construction techniques, and long-term monitoring of infrastructure. His work has significant practical applications for transportation departments and bridge maintenance authorities.
Dr. Barr has received numerous teaching awards including multiple "Engineering Educator of the Year" awards from the Utah Engineers Council (2017), ASCE of Utah (2015), and Structural Engineers Association of Utah (2012). He has also been recognized multiple times as "Outstanding Teacher" by the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and Utah State University.
Throughout his career, Dr. Barr has mentored numerous graduate students in civil engineering, guiding them through research on various structural engineering topics. He has secured significant research funding from organizations including the Utah Department of Transportation and the Federal Highway Administration for projects related to bridge engineering and infrastructure assessment.
Dr. Barr is actively involved with the Utah Transportation Center, where he leads research projects focused on bridge engineering and structural analysis. His work contributes significantly to the center's mission of "Innovative Engineering Against Hazards."
