Dr. Paul Arp is a Professor in the Department of Forestry and Environmental Management at the University of New Brunswick. He joined the faculty in 1976 and specializes in forest hydrology, soil management, and environmental modeling. His work integrates geospatial tools for sustainable resource planning, including infrastructure placement and trafficability forecasting.
Education:
- BSc (Honours) in Chemistry, Carleton University
- PhD in Physical Chemistry, McGill University
Research Focus: Dr. Arp’s work addresses forest sustainability through advanced modeling of soil moisture, nutrient regimes, and hydrological systems. He leads research at the Laboratory for Forest Soils and Environmental Quality and the Forest Watershed Research Centre, developing tools adopted by industry and government. His recent projects include hydro-topographic modeling, mercury contamination analysis, and climate change impact studies.
Key Contributions: Authored over 150 peer-reviewed articles, with a focus on practical applications in forest management. His wet-areas modeling tool is widely used in Canada and internationally for operational planning.
Teaching: Instructs courses on forest soils, watershed management, and environmental quality.
