Paul-Alexis Mellet is a Full Professor in Early Modern History at the University of Geneva. His research focuses on the intersections of politics, religion, and textual culture in 16th-century Europe, particularly during the Protestant Reformation in France, Switzerland, and the Netherlands. Key areas include confessional identities, biblical interpretation, political resistance (Monarchomachs), and the role of printed materials in shaping ideological conflicts.
His recent work emphasizes the analysis of remonstrances—political discourses blending critique and counsel—and their function in negotiating power during the Wars of Religion. He has also explored topics like regicides, royal oaths, and the dynamics of memory and forgetting in post-conflict societies.
