Dr. Paul Albert is a Senior Lecturer in Geography at Swansea University, affiliated with the School of Biosciences, Geography and Physics within the Faculty of Science and Engineering. He holds a UKRI Future Leaders Fellowship and a Leverhulme Trust Early Career Fellowship, focusing on volcanic eruption histories and ash fall studies. His research integrates fieldwork, geochemical analysis of volcanic glass, and sedimentary records to reconstruct past volcanic activities and their climatic impacts.
Dr. Albert's education includes a BSc in Geography (Swansea University), MSc in Quaternary Science (Royal Holloway University of London), and a PhD in Geology (Royal Holloway University of London). His expertise spans tephrochronology, volcanology, and Quaternary climate variability.
His research highlights include studies on Lake Suigetsu's volcanic ash records, Campi Flegrei caldera eruptions, and Antarctic volcanic histories. He collaborates globally with institutions like the University of Oxford and has contributed to major projects such as the UKRI FLF-funded work on explosive volcanism tempo and the Leverhulme-funded Lake Suigetsu ash record analysis.
Key awards include the UKRI Future Leaders Fellowship (2019-2023) and Leverhulme Early Career Fellowship (2015-2018). His work has produced over 50 peer-reviewed articles, focusing on volcanic ash correlations, eruption chronology, and climate-volcanism interactions.
Dr. Albert supervises PhD students in volcanology and tephrochronology and is actively involved in public engagement, including contributions to the Lake Suigetsu Varve Museum in Japan.
