Patty Greenberg

Patty Greenberg is a Lecturer in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology at Goucher College in Baltimore, Maryland. A Goucher College alumna, she previously conducted socio-medical and public health research at the University of Maryland’s School of Medicine and School of Social Work, as well as at public health think tanks and research organizations. She joined Goucher's faculty in 2007.

Research Focus: Greenberg's work bridges public health sociology and medical sociology, with particular emphasis on vulnerable populations. Her research explores: (1) urological disorders like interstitial cystitis/painful bladder syndrome through symptom analysis, diagnostic criteria, and patient experiences; and (2) family systems including custodial grandfamilies, child welfare interventions, and trauma-responsive care. She employs diverse methodologies from clinical trials to epidemiological studies.

Publication Analysis: Her recent articles reveal two primary research arcs: a significant body of work characterizing interstitial cystitis (symptom patterns, diagnostic frameworks, and pain mechanisms), and family-focused studies on custodial grandmothers and trauma interventions. Methodologically, she emphasizes evidence-based clinical criteria, longitudinal symptom tracking, and intervention efficacy.
