Patti Valkenburg is a University Distinguished Professor at the University of Amsterdam, affiliated with the Amsterdam School of Communication Research (ASCoR) within the Faculty of Social and Behavioral Sciences. She serves as Founding Director of CcaM (Center for Research on Children, Adolescents and the Media). Her research focuses on media effects, particularly on youth and adolescents' well-being, social media impact, and media theory. She has held prestigious roles, including Distinguished Research Professor (2011–2016) and has been recognized with awards like the Spinoza Award and ERC Advanced Grant.
Her research explores how individuals differ in their susceptibility to media effects, highlighted in projects like Project AWeSome, investigating social media's dual impacts on adolescents' mental health.
