Patryk Babiarz is an Associate Professor in the Department of Financial Planning, Housing and Consumer Economics at the University of Georgia's College of Family and Consumer Sciences. His research focuses on consumer economics, health economics, and personal finance, with an emphasis on household financial decision-making during crises and policy implications.
He holds a Ph.D. in Family and Consumer Economics from Purdue University (2009) and an M.S. in Computer Science & Econometrics from Cracow University of Economics (2001).
His recent work analyzes financial behaviors during the COVID-19 pandemic, including income shock responses and mental health correlations. He also explores topics like child support impacts on single-parent households and the role of cognitive aging in investment decisions.
Teaching responsibilities include courses on consumer policy, financial research methods, and evidence-based consumer analytics. His publications consistently bridge economic theory with real-world policy applications, addressing issues like housing wealth effects, health insurance mediation, and alternative financial service usage.
