Patrik Hummel

Prof. Dr. Patrik Hummel serves as Full Professor of Philosophy and Blockchain at the University of Lucerne's Faculty of Cultural and Social Sciences, Department of Philosophy since May 1, 2025. His research examines philosophical dimensions of datafication and automation intersecting with justice, sovereignty, identity, and health frameworks.

Hummel's research critically analyzes how emerging technologies destabilize foundational ethical concepts. His work bridges continental philosophy with digital ethics, focusing on blockchain's societal implications and AI's impact on healthcare sovereignty. Current investigations explore identity formation in datafied environments and algorithmic justice frameworks within public health systems.

He previously contributed to the Dutch Gravitation Programme "Ethics of Socially Disruptive Technologies" at TU Eindhoven (2021-2025) and led healthcare AI ethics research at Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nuremberg (2018-2021). His WHO consultancy informed global health data governance standards.

Based in Room 3.A19 at Frohburgstrasse 3, Hummel maintains consultation hours every Thursday 2:00-3:00 PM during HS 2025. He integrates his Philosophical Seminar leadership with cross-institutional collaborations on digital sovereignty frameworks.
