Patrik Hansson is an Associate Professor in Clinical Nutrition at UiT The Arctic University of Norway, affiliated with the Faculty of Health Sciences and the Department of Clinical Medicine in Tromsø. He is actively engaged in research within the Clinical Nutrition Research Group and the Epidemiology of Chronic Diseases research group.
His research focuses on clinical nutrition, particularly postprandial metabolic responses, lipid metabolism, inflammation, and the health effects of dairy and dietary fats. Key areas include the impact of dairy products, saturated vs. polyunsaturated fats, low-carbohydrate diets, and nutritional interventions in obesity, lipedema, and familial hypercholesterolemia.
The recent publications show a strong trend toward human clinical trials, especially randomized controlled trials, examining biomarkers such as triglycerides, cytokines, and gene expression. His work often leverages data from the Tromsø Study and emphasizes sex differences, dietary quality, and cardiometabolic outcomes.
Scientific contributions include studies on fermented dairy, appetite regulation via gut hormones, and nutritional care in hospitals. While no specific awards are listed, his consistent publication record in high-impact journals reflects scholarly impact.
Hansson mentors students and involves them in research, as seen in collaborative projects with bioengineering students. He also participates in public outreach, discussing topics like espresso and cholesterol. His work bridges clinical research, public health, and education.
