معرفی
Prof. Patrick van der Wel is an Associate Professor at the University of Groningen, affiliated with the Faculty of Science and Engineering and the Zernike Institute for Advanced Materials. He leads the Solid-state Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (SSNMR) group, focusing on advanced NMR techniques to study molecular structures and dynamics in biomaterials and disease-related proteins. His research emphasizes neurodegenerative disorders like Huntington's disease, lipid membrane behavior, and bio-inspired functional materials.
Education:
- PhD in Biophysics, University of Arkansas (USA)
- Postdoctoral research at MIT (Griffin Lab) and University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine
- Joined University of Groningen in 2018 as Associate Professor
Research Interests:
- Structural biology of amyloid proteins
- Protein aggregation mechanisms in neurodegenerative diseases
- Dynamic interactions of proteins with lipid membranes
- Bio-inspired nanomaterials and functional hydrogels
- Development of solid-state NMR methodologies
Publications: Recent articles focus on Huntington's disease mechanisms, structural analysis of protein aggregates, and applications of solid-state NMR in studying biomaterial dynamics. Key themes include amyloid core structures, inhibitor development, and lipid-protein interactions.
Awards: 2013 Eastern Analytical Symposium New Faculty Award in NMR Spectroscopy.
Labs/Teams: Head of the SSNMR group, collaborating with international networks like the Dutch NMRDG and European AMPERE committee. Active in editorial roles for Current Research in Structural Biology and PLOS ONE.
