Patrick Tomco, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor and Director of the Applied Science, Engineering, and Technology (ASET) Lab at the University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA). He holds a Ph.D. in Agricultural and Environmental Chemistry from the University of California, Davis, and a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Chemistry from the University of Nevada, Reno.
His research focuses on nutrient cycling, contaminant fate and transport, and microbial ecology, with particular emphasis on environmental chemistry applications in boreal forest watersheds and agricultural soils. Tomco teaches undergraduate courses in general and organic chemistry, including laboratory components.
Recent work includes studies on DOC dynamics in Alaskan watersheds, herbicide degradation in Alaskan and California soils, and microbial community responses to agricultural chemicals. His publications span journals like Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry and Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry.
Tomco mentors undergraduate researchers, such as L. Miller and E. Schultz, and collaborates on advanced manuscripts addressing pesticide degradation under varied environmental conditions.
