Patrick Thomas

Prof. Dr. h.c. Patrick Thomas is a Professor of Communication Design at the Design Department of the Academy of Fine Arts Stuttgart (ABK Stuttgart) and a member of the Senate. He is an internationally recognized graphic designer and artist, known for his work in illustration, screen printing, and visual communication.

• Studied Graphic Design at St. Martins School of Art (UK) and Printmaking & Visual Communication at the Royal College of Art (UK).
• Founded the multidisciplinary studio "laVista" in Barcelona (1997) and produces limited-edition prints since 2008.
• Collaborated with renowned publications like the New York Times, Guardian, Die Zeit, and La Vanguardia.

Research & Practice: Thomas's work is deeply influenced by the productivist and constructivist philosophies of the Russian avant-garde, which inform his approach to graphic design, illustration, and printmaking. His artistic output spans over 150 published editions, widely collected in private and public institutions globally.

Academic & Institutional Engagement: Thomas lectures at prestigious design institutions in Spain and the UK, organizes workshops, and has been a member of the Alliance Graphique Internationale since 2005. He also serves on its International Executive Committee as Secretary and New Member Chair.
