Patrick Nüß

Patrick Nüß is a Postdoctoral Researcher and Economist in the Department of Structural Change and Productivity at the Halle Institute for Economic Research (IWH), a member of the Leibniz Association. He joined IWH in July 2024 after completing his doctorate at Kiel University, where he also earned his master's degree.

As an experimental economist, Dr. Nüß focuses on labor and public economics with particular interest in perceptions, discrimination, and unions. His research investigates the causes of inequality in the labor market, especially examining discrimination and conflicts between employers and trade unions. He employs experimental methods to address fundamental questions about workplace dynamics and labor relations.

His primary publication 'Blacklist or Short List: Do Employers Discriminate Against Union Supporter Job Applicants?' (2022) reflects his research focus on union-related labor issues. This work, published in the ILR Review with Nicole Kreisberg, examines whether employers discriminate against union supporter applicants in entry-level, non-college degree jobs.
