Patrick Meister is a Lecturer at the Institute of Geology, University of Vienna, Faculty of Geosciences, Geography and Astronomy. His research bridges geobiology, biogeochemistry, and sedimentology to explore life-Earth interactions over 4.4 billion years.
- Focus on dolomite formation, methanogenesis, and biogeochemical cycles in modern and ancient systems.
- Key projects: ELEMIN (early life mineralization), TRIADOL (Triassic dolomite environments).
His work integrates porewater chemistry, isotope geochemistry, and numerical modeling to decode microbial impacts on mineral formation. Recent publications highlight Mg isotope analysis, spherulitic growth mechanisms, and Nanostructures in lake dolomite. Collaborations span Austria, Italy, Morocco, and international teams, with fieldwork in hypersaline lakes and marine methane seeps.
Meister’s studies connect to UN Sustainable Development Goals via climate history reconstruction and resource management insights. He has authored 67+ peer-reviewed works, including a 2018 Habilitation Thesis on authigenic mineral formation, and frequently presents at geoscience conferences.
