معرفی
Patrick Meere is a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Geology, School of Biological, Earth and Environmental Sciences, University College Cork, where he has been affiliated since 1999. His work bridges structural geology, geochronology, and sediment provenance studies, with a focus on the Variscan orogeny in southwest Ireland.
- BSc in Geology (University College Galway, 1988)
- PhD in Structural Geology (University College Cork, 1992)
- Postgraduate Diploma in Teaching & Learning (University College Cork, 2005)
His research interests include finite strain analysis in sedimentary rocks, isotopic dating of deformation events, and fluid migration in tectonic settings. He pioneered 40Ar/39Ar UV laser ablation for cleavage dating in sandstone-dominated lithologies and developed software tools like CASRG and IPSAT for automated strain analysis.
Recent peer-reviewed work spans geothermal energy potential in Ireland, copper mineralization chronology, and sediment routing from southern Ireland to offshore basins. His grants include €4M+ from the European Commission and SFI for geofluid dynamics and critical mineral deposits.
- Marie Curie Fellowship (1992)
- National Forum for Teaching & Learning Award (2014)
- UCC President’s Award for teaching innovation (2004, 2013)
As a educator, he coordinates undergraduate and MSc modules, supervises postgraduates, and organizes field courses. He collaborates with institutions in the U.S.A. (University of Montana), Germany (University of Potsdam), and Holland (University of Utrecht).
