Akbar Huseynov is an External PhD Candidate at the Faculty of Science, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, specializing in Geology and Geochemistry. His research is part of the FluidNET project, an international consortium funded by the EU H2020 Marie Skłodowska-Curie Action.
- PhD in Progress: FluidNET project (2021–2025)
- MSc in Exploration and Reservoirs Geology, University of Montpellier (2020)
- BSc in Earth Sciences, University of Lille (2018)
- BSc in Ecology and Sciences of Soil, Baku State University (2014)
His work focuses on fluid migration in the Earth's crust, particularly in orogenic foreland basins linked to the Variscan Orogeny. He combines Structural Geology (vein orientation, relative timing) with Geochemistry (stable isotopes, 40Ar/39Ar dating) to constrain fluid migration timescales and mechanisms. Techniques include SIMS, CRDS, Raman spectroscopy, and drone-based photogrammetry for 3D modeling of vein structures.
His recent publications highlight quartz veins as key records of fluid activity during ancient mountain-building processes. He has received a Europlanet 2024 RI Transnational Access grant (2023), underscoring his contributions to fluid inclusion analysis and isotopic studies. While active in supervising bachelor's and master's student theses, his primary role remains research-focused within the FluidNET framework.
