Patrick McDonald is an Assistant Professor at Bilkent University. He holds a Ph.D. in English from SUNY Buffalo (2018), an MA from SUNY Buffalo, and a B.A. in English from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. His research focuses on early and nineteenth-century American literature, examining how the past influences nineteenth-century American culture and politico-theological crises. His monograph Liberalism, Theology, and the Performative in Antebellum American Literature (Routledge, 2023) analyzes literary responses to pre-Civil War crises. Current projects include a monograph on American encounters with Anatolia and an article on Middle Eastern infrastructure in Melville’s Clarel.
