Patrick Magee is a Professor of Biology at Western Colorado University, affiliated with the Clark Family School of Environment & Sustainability and the Natural & Environmental Sciences Department. He holds a PhD (1996) and MS (1989) in Wildlife Ecology from the University of Missouri, and a B.S. in Wildlife Biology from Colorado State University (1986).
His teaching highlights include the intensive field course Colorado Ecoregions, which immerses students in Colorado's ecological diversity. Research focuses on sagebrush ecosystems, mammal population dynamics (e.g., red foxes, snowshoe hares), and avian conservation. He collaborates with agencies like Sisk-a-dee on the Gunnison Sage-Grouse Watchable Wildlife Program and serves on wildlife management committees.
Key projects include studies on sagebrush bird habitats, wetland macroinvertebrates, and predator effects on nest success. Magee emphasizes experiential learning and applied conservation solutions, often involving undergraduate researchers in field-based studies.
