Anna D. Chalfoun is an Associate Professor in the Department of Zoology and Physiology at the University of Wyoming, affiliated with the College of Agriculture, Life Sciences, and Natural Resources. She serves as Assistant Leader of the Wyoming Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit. Her research integrates ecology, evolution, and conservation biology, focusing on wildlife-habitat relationships and adaptive strategies in species like birds, mammals, and amphibians. Key themes include habitat fragmentation, climate adaptation, and the effectiveness of conservation strategies.
Her work emphasizes understanding how organisms select habitats and the fitness consequences of these choices. Notable projects include studies on sagebrush songbirds, greater sage-grouse, and amphibians like boreal toads. She explores how anthropogenic changes (e.g., energy development, wildfires) impact wildlife, with a focus on maladaptive behaviors and conservation solutions.
Dr. Chalfoun advises numerous graduate students, including alumni such as Anicka Kratina-Hathaway and Anika Mahoney. Her lab collaborates with the Wyoming Landscape Conservation Initiative and the Haub School of Environment and Natural Resources. While her departmental email is zprequest@uwyo.edu, her research has led to significant contributions to avian conservation and habitat management strategies.
