Patrick L. LiKamWa is a Professor of Optics and Photonics at CREOL, The College of Optics and Photonics, University of Central Florida, with a joint appointment in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. He currently serves as Associate Dean for Academic Programs. His research focuses on designing novel optoelectronic devices using III-V multi-quantum well semiconductors, and integrating high-speed optical components into monolithic and hybrid integrated optical circuits for applications in optical networks and sensing. Dr. LiKamWa holds a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Sheffield, England.
He has received multiple teaching awards, including the 2018 Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching Award and the 2012 and 1998 Teaching Incentive Program Awards. His research group includes postdoctoral scholar Sudip Gurung and graduate student Musharrat Shabnam. Key collaborations involve developing cutting-edge technologies such as chiral state transfer, topological modes in lasers, and broadband optical components for virtual reality systems.
Publications highlight contributions to laser physics, integrated photonics, and sensor technologies, appearing in Science, Nature, and top-tier optics journals. His work bridges semiconductor optoelectronics with advanced optical systems, emphasizing practical applications in high-speed communications and sensing.
