Patrick J. Hart

Patrick J. Hart is the Chair and Professor of Biology at the University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo (UH Hilo), leading the Biology Department within the College of Natural and Health Sciences (CNHS). He specializes in the ecology and conservation of Hawaiian forests and forest birds. His research integrates behavioral ecology, bioacoustics, and dendrochronology to address conservation challenges.

• Ph.D. in Zoology, University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa (2000)

Research Interests:

• Use of bioacoustics for bird conservation and behavior analysis

• Inventories and monitoring of Hawaiian forest birds
• Radar-based surveys of avian and bat movement

His lab, the LOHE Bioacoustics Lab, collaborates internationally and develops tools like the Perch algorithm for acoustic species monitoring.
